Arriving in Singapore was extremely shocking, after 9 weeks of traveling in regions much less developed. This city is much more than 1st world, extremely organized and clean...even more than Europe...so much, that you almost want to throw some rubbish on the street just to make it look real!

Here is the neighborhood where we were staying,
Little India, at night. It has nothing to do with
India, but it's really nice!
Singaporeans have a hard life, since they can be fined for pretty much every thing, like: Carrying durians in the metro! yes, just because it stinks! eating in the metro, smoking in public places, and and and...
And if you happen to like drugs....or carry them...it's DEATH BY HANGING for drug dealers! no kidding! and of course there are cameras every where WATCHING YOU! The good thing is that you do feel safe and everything works with swiss clock precision.
We walked around the streets in the colonial area, surrounded by the skyscrapers, with really nice bars and restaurants.

famous Colombian sculptor
To watch the city from above you have to go to an expensive sky-bar or pay 20 dollars to go up to the tallest and nicest building in Singapore: the newly opened Marina Bay Sands Hotel. We decide to pay the 20 dollars, because dressed as backpackers....the fancy bars are probably not gonna let us in.
We arrive at this immense lobby and are kind of lost...and seeing no ticket counter we just go to the elevator guessing that the counter would be upstairs. A Russian lady comes and sticks her card and we go up...not knowing that we just had clandestinely sneaked into the building. The moment she asks if we have a card, we realize there will be no counter upstairs....and next thing we know....we are on the VIP guest's roof pool, enjoying the nicest view over Singapore
But being afraid someone is going to ask for our room number, we decide to go down and as good backpackers get some chips at the supermarket and enjoy the skyline and the light show at the bay (for free!)

But the best thing in Singapore is the food...it's not just cheap but healthy and you have so much choice, from fresh fruit juices (1EUR) to Indian or Chinese food (3EUR) in the local hawker centers (food courts), where most of the locals eat.

We then go to other less fancy but more picturesque places like China Town and Little India

Singapore's population is a mix of Chinese, Malay and Indians (mostly from Tamil Nadu in South India)...and expats of course. They seem to get along pretty well among them, with all their languages being official besides English.

As the German saying goes: you always meet twice in life...and here we are meeting our Colombian friends that we met for the first time back in Montpellier
